For websites that haven't been updated in years
A lot of websites were built with care once and never updated after that. They still run on an old PHP version, and as soon as that has to go up, the site breaks.
We fix that for a fixed price. If we can't, you get your money back.

Why now
Every PHP version gets security updates for a few years, and then they stop. If a hole is found after that, it simply stays open.
We saw what that means on 21 October 2026. Two serious security holes in PHP came to light, and the official fix was only released for PHP 8.3, 8.4 and 8.5. Sites on an older version stayed vulnerable.
And the longer you wait, the bigger the job. Every update you skip makes the move to a new version harder.

Then PHP 8.2 will also stop receiving security updates (31/12/2026). Is your website running on this version or an older one? Then this is a good moment to update it.
| Version | Security updates until | Status |

| PHP 5.x | Expired | No more updates |
| PHP 7.x | Expired | No more updates |
| PHP 8.0 | Expired | No more updates |
| PHP 8.1 | Expired | No more updates |
| PHP 8.2 | 31/12/2026 | Security updates only |
| PHP 8.3 | 31/12/2027 | Security updates only |

| PHP 8.5 | 31/12/2029 | Fully supported |

From real life
Then you're definitely not the only one. We see it with lots of websites that were built a few years ago and haven't been looked after since.
White screen
I switched to a newer PHP version and now my site is just a white page.
What we do about it: It's usually one plugin or a bit of old code. We'll track it down.
WordPress
WordPress keeps telling me my PHP version is out of date.
What we do about it: After the upgrade, that warning goes away on its own.
Plugins and theme
My plugins and theme won't update anymore.
What we do about it: We update them. Anything that can't be updated, we replace after checking with you.
Forms
Since an update, my contact form doesn't work.
What we do about it: We test forms, logging in and your online shop before anything goes live.
Developer gone
I can't get hold of the person who built my site.
What we do about it: No need. We'll get to know your site ourselves.
Hosting company
My hosting company is switching off the old PHP version.
What we do about it: Then we'll have your site ready in time, even if you still host elsewhere.
Good to know
Many people think an old website can only be saved with a completely new one. Often that isn't necessary at all: your existing website can stay, only secure again.
| PHP upgrade at WebOké | Having a new website built |
|---|---|
| From €99, one-off | Often costs hundreds to thousands of euros |
| Your texts, photos and pages simply stay in place | Supplying texts, photos and pages all over again |
| Your website looks the way you're used to | Your website will look different |
| Your page addresses stay the same | Page addresses may change |
Step by step
We never work on your live website. Everything happens on a copy, and we only move it over once you're happy with it.
You pay upfront and give us your site's address. Feel free to mention anything that really has to keep working, like your online shop or a form.
On the copy, we switch on a current PHP version. The error log shows us which plugins, themes or bits of custom code can't keep up anymore.
We update WordPress or your other CMS, plus the plugins and the theme. Code that PHP no longer understands, we rewrite. If a plugin hasn't been maintained for years, we only switch it off if your site can do without it. Otherwise we talk to you first.
You get to see the copy and a short summary of what we did. The new version only goes live once you've said yes.
Your site now
PHP 7.4
After the upgrade
PHP 8.4
For the techies
These functions no longer exist in newer versions of PHP. If one of them is still lurking somewhere in your site, it will break as soon as PHP is upgraded.
From the error log
| Function | Removed in | Where we often find it |
|---|---|---|
create_function() | PHP 8.0 | Old sliders and themes |
each() | PHP 8.0 | Old plugins |
mysql_query() | PHP 7.0 | Custom-built sites |
ereg() | PHP 7.0 | Old forms and input validation |

For PHP websites that haven't been updated for a while and are stuck on an old version because of it, such as PHP 5, PHP 7, 8.0 or 8.1. Think of WordPress, WooCommerce, Joomla, Drupal, PrestaShop, Magento or a custom-built site. Even if you no longer know who built it in the first place.
Yes. We work on a copy. Your live site stays up as normal until you've approved the result.
Sometimes a site can't do without a part that can't be saved anymore, for example a plugin whose maker has stopped and that's built deep into your site. In that case we'll tell you straight, and you get your money back.
If a plugin doesn't work on a new PHP version and nobody maintains it anymore, we switch it off if your site can do without it. If you really need it, we'll talk through the options with you.
You don't need to arrange or send us anything extra for those. We simply include paid plugins and themes in the upgrade.
AI helps us with the searching: finding outdated code quickly and suggesting a first fix. A member of our team checks every change and tests your website before you get to see it.
Then your site needs cleaning up first. That isn't covered by the fixed price. We can do it for you, though, at our hourly rate of €80 excl. VAT, charged per quarter of an hour.
A current version that still gets security updates. By default that's PHP 8.4.
After the first year, WebHost Two continues at €54.40 a year, including your domain name. Don't want to renew? Then cancel the package in My WebOké before the renewal date.
